The Freedom School, along with Fresno’s grass roots community, is inviting the public to a Freedom & Justice March to bring more awareness to the Black & Brown Lives Matter movement. The rally will feature motivational speakers from all across California.
There will be a town hall meeting following the march with special guest speakers, including:
1) Dionne Smith Downs from Stockton, CA, the mother of James E. Rivera who was fired at 48 times and was hit 18 times by an officers AR-15 assault rifle. He was unarmed.
2) Cindy Mitchell from Vallejo, CA, whose brother, Mario Romero, was murdered by Vallejo Police while sitting unarmed in his car in front of his home.
3) Cadine Williams from Oakland, Ca, whose brother, O ‘Shane Evans, was killed by San Francisco police.
There will also be civil right leaders speaking, including Juan Rafael Avitia from the Fresno Brown Berets, along with other Fresno leaders.
The Freedom School was founded this year by Rev. Floyd D. Harris, Jr.
The Freedom School has made a positive impact on the lives of those who have attended. A major highlight this year was the Fresno Brown Berets’ workshops on “Know Your Rights when confronted by police officers”, which made a positive impression on these young people. We will have organizations from different parts of California coming to support our goal of Freedom & Justice for all people.
