Fresno’s ‘Freedom School’ to be Awarded by City Councilman

 

Fresno City  District 3 Oliver L. Baines III will give recognition and awards to the 2015 Fresno Freedom School students for their dedication commitmement and hard work they have accomplished in his district. These students have went above and beyond their own expectations to be successful and take their education to a higher level. Here are the names of the Freedom School students. Evron Burton, Earl D. White III, Jadora J. White, Dwight Samuel, Floyd D. Harris III, Freddy Dayvon, Freddie Dayshon Standifer, Anthany Rogers, Elijah Mc Fall

The 2016, summer session of Freedom School begins on June 25th and will run thru July 30th. During the six-week program, participants will learn how to plant and harvest vegetables, understand techniques in water conservation, irrigation, basic farm management including life skills and habits for healthy living, leadership, etiquette and pathways for a successful journey onto college. In addition, participants will also have the opportunity to learn techniques in media and video production, journalism and computer skills enhancement, as well as-basic skills for cooking sewing, knitting and crochet, canning and learning how to preserve farm fresh foods.

Fresno’s chapter of the Freedom School was founded by Reverend Doctor Floyd D. Harris Jr. Inspired by the Freedom School of the Civil Rights era, in which black teachers and youth organized to foster social change, Rev. Dr. Harris intends to continue providing service by demonstrating excellence and exposing the greatness that dwells with in each young man and women in the community. Specific donations for the farming unit of the program are needed. Those items include: a wheel barrel, 5 leaf rakes, 5 iron rakes, 5 garden hoe, 15 pairs work gloves, a 100 ft. water hose, 10 straw hats, 2 -12 x 12 Canopy, 20 case water bottles.”
