80 People Have Already Been Killed by Police This Year

We have eclipsed the first month of 2015, and 80 people have already been killed by police. Last year there was an average of 3.0 people killed by police every day, totaling 1100 deaths at the hands of police. This year the police are keeping that statistic in line with an average of 2.5 people dying at the hands of police every day.

Not everyone of the people listed on the www.killedbypolice.net 2015 database were “murdered” by the police in fact some may actually be justified, or legitimately accidental but the fact remains that your chances of dying elevate when the police are around.

The majority have been officer involved shootings, some are not your “traditional” officer involved death.

One man has been killed by a taser in Los Angeles.                                                           Multiple people have been killed in accidents involving police vehicles.                                   Four people have been killed while in police custody.                                                                  Texas Border Patrol shot 2 people in two days.                                                                                A Corrections officer shot his girlfriend and then himself in an apparent murder suicide.   A Game Warden was shot and killed by another officer during a training accident.        Kevin Davis was shot and killed by police after a roommate stabbed his girlfriend. Officer Joseph Pitts responded, did not announce himself, and proceeded to shoot his 3 legged dog. Davis responded to the shots with his own gun, assuming his girlfriends assailant had returned. He was killed by Officer Pitts.                                                                                                                                                   One police k9 has been killed in Wise, Texas, and another in Stockton, CA was injured, and has been returned to his handler.

Regardless of your opinion of police, it has become blatantly obvious that there is a need for change in the field of law enforcement. When you are eight times more likely to be killed by an american police officer, than a terrorist, its time to reevaluate where the actual threat to freedom is.
